Grants interim bail
The Supreme Court on Wednesday granted interim bail to Ali Khan Mahmudabad, a professor at Ashoka University, who has been arrested by the Haryana police for a controversial social media post on Operation Sindoor.
His post was seen as critical of the Indian armed forces, especially of two women officers who addressed the media—Colonel Sofia Qureshi and Wing Commander Vyomika Singh.
The court allowed Mahmudabad to go free on interim bail for now but refused to stay the investigation by the police. Hearing the petition, a bench of Justice Surya Kant and Justice NK Singh questioned the timing and tone of the professor's comments, calling it an attempt to seek "cheap publicity" during a sensitive time for the country.
