Rahul, activists slam SIR as political storm brews in Bengal

Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Sunday accused the government of unleashing "chaos" across the country under the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, alleging that 16 Booth Level Officers (BLOs) have died in the past three weeks due to pressure linked to the exercise.

The SIR is currently underway in nine States and three Union Territories, with the final electoral roll scheduled for publication on 7 February 2026.
