North India on Edge as Rains Swell Yamuna, Jhelum and Punjab Rivers
The Daily Guardian
|September 04, 2025
Heavy rains and rising rivers have battered north India, forcing mass evacuations in Delhi, Punjab and Kashmir.
Large swathes of north India are reeling under severe monsoon conditions, with Delhi-NCR, Punjab and Kashmir facing worsening flood threats as rivers surge beyond danger marks and incessant rains batter communities.
In the national capital, heavy showers lashed parts of Delhi-NCR on Wednesday, causing the Yamuna to swell to 207 metres at the Old Railway Bridge by early afternoon, well above the danger level of 205.33 metres. The all-time high stands at 208.66 metres.
Relief camps have been set up in Yamuna Khadar and Mayur Vihar Phase-I, while the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has intensified rescue efforts.
