MEA denies Modi-Trump call, rebuts oil claim

India’s Ministry of External Affairs on Thursday said there was no phone call between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump on Wednesday, countering the US President's claim that Mr Modi had assured him India would stop buying Russian oil.
MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal told reporters he was “not aware of any conversation yesterday between the two leaders”, adding that their last call was on 9 October, when Mr Modi congratulated Mr Trump on his Gaza peace plan, reviewed trade talks and agreed to stay in touch.
Pressed on whether the two might meet on the sidelines of the forthcoming ASEAN Summit, Mr Jaiswal said India’s participation and schedule would be announced “at the appropriate time”.
