In late 2025, a viral Chinese study claimed “Lard Keeps You Fit?” But what's the fine print?
Every few years, an unfashionable fat gets a redemption arc. In late 2025, lard—rendered pork fat—was pulled into that cycle by a Chinese animal study that some headlines translated into “lard keeps you fit.” What the paper actually did was compare diets containing lard, camellia seed oil, or peanut oil in mice and report that the lard group showed lower lipid accumulation and changes the authors interpreted as reduced inflammatory activity in adipose tissue.
