Kajari Teej of Bundi: A Monsoon Celebration of Culture & Tradition

Rajasthan, the land of royalty, colors, and traditions, offers much to explore beyond its majestic forts and palaces. The state is a treasure trove of vibrant fairs and festivals that reflect its rich cultural heritage. Among these, the Kajari Teej festival celebrated in Bundi, often called the queen of Hadoti, holds a unique place. Distinct from the other Teej festivals observed across Rajasthan, Kajari Teej transforms Bundi into a week-long celebration of joy, devotion, and artistic splendor.

Teej is celebrated throughout the rainy season across Rajasthan, with each region having its own customs and traditions. The festival is dedicated to the eternal love and union of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. Women wear traditional attire, adorn themselves with new bangles, apply mehendi, and pray for the well-being and longevity of their husbands. With the arrival of the monsoon, swings are hung from trees and decorated with flowers. The air is filled with traditional songs as young girls dress in colorful clothing to mark the season. Teej is essentially a women's festival, celebrating feminine devotion and the advent of rain.
