Individuals pay more tax than firms, says Congress

Citing recent tax collection data, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh on Sunday alleged that the BJP-led Centre individuals are paying more tax than companies, and the middle class is bearing the weight of heavy taxation while Rs 2 lakh crore has been put in “pockets of billionaires” due to slashing of corporate tax.

The allegation came on day after data the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) released that the net direct tax collection of Rs 5,74,357 crore . Corporation Income Tax stood at Rs 2,10,274 crore while Personal Income Tax at Rs 3,46,036 crore after excluding refunds.
