India Global Leader in Species-Specific Conservation and Ecological Balance
The Daily Guardian
|July 29, 2025
In India's cultural consciousness, the tiger is not merely a wild animal—it is a living embodiment of power, grace, and ecological balance.
Since ancient times, the tiger has held a unique place in Indian traditions, mythology, and local beliefs. It is deeply woven into our national psyche, representing the biological and spiritual expression of Indian identity.
As we celebrate International Tiger Day on July 29, it gives me immense pleasure to note that India is now globally recognized as a leading nation in tiger conservation. Under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India's achievements in this field have become a global model for wildlife preservation.
This success story began in 1973 with the launch of Project Tiger, a mission that today stands as a shining example of commitment, foresight, and perseverance in wildlife protection. Thanks to this enduring effort, the population of our national animal—the tiger—has not only been safeguarded but has grown significantly. Today, India is home to approximately 3,682 tigers, accounting for over 75% of the world's wild tiger population.
