Farmers to Launch Nationwide Campaign Against Free Trade Deals

The Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM)—an umbrella body of around 40 farmers' organizations—announced a nationwide campaign against the central government's economic and trade policies, which they claim are endangering India's agriculture and dairy sectors.
In an online press conference, SKM expressed concern that the Modi government is preparing to sign a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) under pressure from the United States, which may come into effect from August 1.
As part of their protest, SKM will observe August 13 as "Corporates Quit India Day," inspired by the Quit India Movement. Farmers across the country will organize tractor and vehicle rallies, burn effigies of US President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and raise slogans against corporate control of Indian agriculture.
