'Emergency for our future': CBCI on Christmas violence

As incidents of vandalism and intimidation during Christmas celebrations surface across multiple states, the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of India (CBCI) has expressed deep concern, warning that India’s long-cherished culture of tolerance is under visible strain.

Over the past week, reports have emerged from Assam, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and parts of Delhi. The latest incident was reported from Nalbari town in Assam, where a group of Bajrang Dal and Vishva Hindu Parishad activists allegedly stormed a diocesan school on Christmas Eve and damaged decorations. Christmas ornaments being sold in local shops were also vandalised.
Amid growing unease, News X spoke exclusively to Fr Robinson Rodrigues, PRO of the CBCI, who spoke candidly about the situation.
