Economists back ‘One Nation, One Election’ at JPC meeting

Eminent economists on Wednesday expressed strong support for the 'One Nation, One Election' proposal at a meeting of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC), chaired by BJP MP P.P. Chaudhary.
Former Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Dr Montek Singh Ahluwalia suggested that Lok Sabha polls should remain separate, while all state assembly, panchayat and local body elections be held simultaneously. He argued that such a model would cut down on the frequency of elections and improve governance.
