CYCLONE DITWAH: AFTERMATH & RELIEF
AFTERMATH & RELIEF
At least 334 people have died and 370 remain missing in Sri Lanka after Cyclone Ditwah triggered catastrophic flooding and landslides across multiple districts, Sri Lanka’s Disaster Management Centre (DMC) said on Monday. More than 1.1 million people from over 3lakh families have been affected, making it one of the island's worst disasters in decades.
Kandy recorded the highest casualties with 88 deaths and 150 missing, followed by Badulla (71), Nuwara Eliya (68) and Matale (23). Rising rivers have inundated towns, swept away bridges and crippled essential infrastructure across the country.
