CBI questions principal, role of insiders alleged

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has intensified its probe into the rape and murder of a woman doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, with new allegations suggesting the involvement of hospital staff.

On Friday, the CBI interrogated five doctors from RG Kar Medical College, including the former medical superintendent-cum-viceprincipal (MSVP), the principal, and the head of the Chest Department, where the victim’s body was found. It also conducted a reconstruction of the crime scene at the hospital with the arrested civic volunteer, Sanjay Roy, who was apprehended the day after the incident.

A CBI team also revisited the hospital, speaking with intern doctors, nurses, and other staff who were present on the night of the incident.

The parents of the victim, who was found dead in the hospital’s seminar room on August 9, have informed the CBI that they suspect several interns and physicians from the same medical institution were involved in the crime.

According to a CBI officer, the parents provided the central agency, which is conducting the investigation under an order from the Calcutta High Court, with the names of those they believe were connected to their daughter’s killing.
