AstraZeneca, Qure.ai Hit 5 Million AI Chest X-Rays for Lung Cancer Detection

In a major milestone for digital health and global cancer care, AstraZeneca, in partnership with health-tech company Qure.ai, has announced the successful completion of 5 million artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled chest X-rays (CXRs) across more than 20 countries in Asia, the Middle East, Africa, and Latin America.

This achievement marks a significant leap forward in early lung cancer detection, especially in resource-limited healthcare settings.

The initiative, launched under the umbrella of AstraZeneca's A.Catalyst Network, is a core part of its commitment to the World Economic Forum's EDISON Alliance 1 Billion Lives Challenge—a global movement aimed at improving one billion lives through digital access to healthcare, education, and financial services.

Utilizing Qure.ai's qXR® technology, the AI-enabled scans have already identified high-risk lung nodules in nearly 50,000 individuals, enabling timely referrals for further testing, such as low-dose CT scans. In countries where diagnostic resources are stretched, this triaging tool has proved to be a cost-effective and scalable solution for early detection.
