Air India Faces $600 Million Blow From Pakistan Airspace Ban

Air India anticipates incurring around $600 million in additional costs if Pakistan's airspace remains closed to Indian carriers for a full year, and has urged the Indian government to provide financial support to offset the losses.
In a letter dated April 27 to the Civil Aviation Ministry, the airline requested a "subsidy model" proportionate to the economic impact, estimating a potential annual loss of over Rs 50 billion ($591 million). The request follows Pakistan's decision to shut its airspace to Indian aircraft in retaliation for a recent attack on tourists in Kashmir.
