Empty high-rise tower block could be replaced with smaller building
The Cornishman
|November 06, 2025
HOUSING association LiveWest has submitted a planning application to demolish the now empty seven-storey Fountain Court tower block on St Clare Street in Penzance and replace it with a slightly lower building.
In October 2022 residents of the sheltered housing block were told by LiveWest they had no more than eight months to move out so the building could be knocked down.
It said the 1960s block, comprising 22 flats for people over 55, no longer met “modern building standards or energy efficiency expectations’.
Residents could instead choose one of LiveWest’s vacant properties, without having to register with Cornwall Council's Homechoice service to find a new place to live.
