Wiaan makes a statement

If there was any uncertainty around Wiaan Mulder's potential future as a Proteas captain, the in-form all-rounder put an end to it in spectacular fashion yesterday, closing out one of the best Test innings ever played on day two of the second match against Zimbabwe in Bulawayo.

With regular captain Temba Bavuma being rested, and stand-in skipper Keshav Maharaj picking up a groin injury in the first Test last week, Mulder was named as the leader of an under-strength SA squad for the series decider.

And head coach Shukri Conrad insisted Mulder, who was pushed up the order for this series, would step up and deliver under pressure. Oh how right he was.
