Inspired in part by her own experiences, the book is available in several formats, including an audiobook narrated by jazz singer and actress Jerzy Jung.

“The book is partly my lived experience growing up in South Africa amid a large extended Jewish family with Eastern European roots,” Levine said. “I grew up under an autocratic, racist, Christian national government.”

The book weaves the intimate lives of three powerful women across three generations of the Weisz family, one among a great wave of Jewish immigrants in the latter part of the 19th century. While most washed up in America, a wavelet of Lithuanian Jews, like the Weiszes, landed on South Africa's shores.
