Coetze will be in the spotlight

All eyes will be on Pieter Coetze (above) over the next week, as the backstroke star attempts to stick up his hand for the next generation of South African swimmers at the World Aquatics Championships in Singapore.

While the SA team had athletes competing in four other codes at the three-week aquatics showpiece which started last week, the nation had not yet stepped on the podium as of yesterday.

As was expected, the country's medal hopes were now set to be directed towards the swimming pool, though potentially lofty expectations of fans and spectators might need to be simmered.
