BREAKTHROUGH: PERSISTENCE, HARD WORK PAY
In the vibrant and ever-evolving South African music industry, a new wave of talented producers and DJs continues to push boundaries and redefine genres.
One name that has been making waves is CocoSA, a Metro FM award-winning DJ and producer whose soulful and rhythmic sound has captured audiences both locally and internationally.
Humble beginnings
Born and raised in Uitenhage, a town known for its rich cultural heritage in the Eastern Cape, CocoSA, real name Mvume Kosi, was destined for a musical path.
Growing up in a family that deeply cherished music, he was surrounded by an eclectic mix of sounds from an early age.
Whether it was gospel, jazz, or traditional African melodies, the early exposures laid the foundation for his musical journey.
As a child, he found solace in playing the piano.
With a fascination of how melodies could evoke emotions, he spent countless hours refining his craft.
His love for vinyl records was also ignited during this period, as he admired the artistry and nostalgia behind physical albums.
It was at community events where musicians would gather and create an electric atmosphere where his passion for production was truly sparked.
