Sixth parole hearing looms for rapist who grabbed girl from her bath

The Chronicle

WHETHER evil bath-snatch rapist Peter Voisey should be freed from prison could be decided next month.

- By SOPHIE DOUGHTY

The vile predator was locked up for life after carrying out one of the North East's most terrifying and shocking crimes 20 years ago.

It was just two days after Christmas when Voisey crept into a home in Willington Quay, Wallsend, and snatched a six-year-old girl from the bath, where she had been happily playing with her toys. The monster then drove the youngster away before carrying out two horrific sex attacks before dumping her naked and crying for her mum in a dark, freezing cold back lane.

Voisey was found guilty of rape, sexual assault and abduction at Newcastle Crown Court, by jurors who were brought to tears as they heard of the little girl's ordeal.

As he was jailed for life, with a minimum of 10 years, Judge David Hodson warned Voisey he might never be released. But a Parole Board panel will decide whether he is safe to return to the streets after a hearing next month.
