The Chronicle
|September 05, 2025
NEWCASTLE Chess Club's weekly drop-in sessions at the City Library in Newcastle are about to become lot more interesting, with their first FIDE-rated Blitz taking place this Saturday, September 6, from 11:00am to 1:30pm.
-
So far, the library has hosted mainly social and friendly chess. From this weekend, it will host a blitz tournament on the first Saturday of each month, and other classical and rapid chess events on other Saturdays at 11:00am. The games will count towards national and international ratings.
The tournaments are open for anyone and suitable for players of all strengths and experience. To register, email Tim Wall, at timpeter-wall@gmail.com or turn up at 10:45am on Saturdays. The games will take place on Level 1 of the library, and spectators are welcome.
