Man spotted with kitchen knife hidden in his waistband

A CAREER burglar with 122 offences to his name was caught carrying a large knife near a Newcastle block of flats for 'his own protection.

Paul Kenny, a renowned crook who was released from his latest prison sentence only last year, was spotted by a member of public to have the 8-inch blade near Walkerdene House, in Walker.

A court heard the police were called and located the 50-year-old, who matched the description given by the witness, and he immediately confessed to carrying the knife.

Officers then found it in his trouser waistband and he was arrested.
