Magnay: 'We just ran out of steam'

CARL Magnay admitted Gateshead “ran out of steam” as their National League play-off bid took a hit with a home defeat against promotion contenders York City.

The Heed made a positive start to the contest and took an early lead when Luke Hannant pounced to fire home after Jovan Malcolm had been denied by former Gateshead keeper Harrison Male.
The lead remained in place until 10 minutes before half-time, when Ashley Nathaniel-George prodded home from close range after the Heed failed to deal with a cross from the right hand side.
Parity remained in place until the final quarter of an hour when the Minstermen took full advantage of some poor decision-making from Gateshead and showed the prolific attacking play that has taken them into second place in the table.
Substitute Junior Luamba has been on the pitch 10 minutes when he got on the end of an Alex Pearce cross to beat Heed keeper Tiernan Brooks before Nathaniel-George ended the contest by grabbing his side's third goal with five minutes remaining.
