October 04, 2025

THE leader of Newcastle City Council has welcomed a £40million investment into Walker and Elswick.

These areas of the city will each benefit from £20m over the coming years, in a historic transfer of power to local people, giving them the ability to shape their communities.

The funding comes from the Government's Pride in Place Programme (PiPP), and is described as the biggest transfer of power from central government to local communities in history.

It will put communities at the forefront of local decision making, with residents leading how they want to tackle local issues to support their own health and wellbeing, and learning how they can protect, support and develop the local assets and facilities that matter to them.
