Karaoke among twists as festive ice rink returns

The Chronicle

September 22, 2025

MUSIC fans can glide to the tune of classic Disney tracks or up the ante with a whirl to Sam Fender when Newcastle's popular outdoor ice rink makes a comeback for the festive season.

- By BARBARA HODGSON

Or customers might prefer to take advantage of a karaoke singalong as they slip and slide their way around.

All this and more will be on the programme with the return of Life Science Centre's annual popup in Times Square.

It marks the arrival of Christmas for many and this year the action will start early with the help of some special themed events.

While it might be only September, festive preparations are already well under way around the North East, from the likes of the recently-reported Christmas Village plans for Newcastle and return dates for Northern Lights festive trail to region-wide festive fairs.

There are also Christmas train rides and Beamish Museum's Christmas Evening openings.

An outing to Life’s ice rink has become another entrenched festive tradition for many families.
