The Chronicle
|October 01, 2025
NEWCASTLE College has announced Joe McElderry as a patron of its Performance Academy.
The South Shields native, who won the X Factor in 2009, studied at the educational institution before finding fame.
He gained a BTEC National Diploma in Performing Arts at the collage between 2008 and 2009. He returned to the Performance Academy last week to share the news of his new role with over 200 of its students.
Since he was catapulted to fame on one of the UK's biggest TV shows, Joe has spent over 15 years in the worlds of music and theatre.
His debut single, The Climb, reached number one, and his stage credits include leading roles in UK tours of Joseph and the Amazing Technicoloured Dreamcoat and Club Tropicana.
