A DRUGGED and dangerous driver who kept a police chase going even after officers burst his tyres has been jailed.

- By ROB KENNEDY Reporter

It was just before 2am on October 16 that police spotted Steward Strong driving an Audi in Ashington, heading towards Newbiggin.

Newcastle Crown Court heard officers signalled for him to pull over but he made off at speed, sparking a chase. Matthew Hopkins, prosecuting, said: “The police were barely able to keep up. The car drove off the road on to some grass and the police lost sight of him.”

The police helicopter then spotted him in the Killingworth area and a stinger device was used to try to bring him to a stop. But even after his tyres were burst, he continued driving.
