DESPITE ATTACK HE HAS AVOIDED PRISON AND AN ANIMAL BAN
A DOG owner whose out of control pet attacked his mother’s support worker has avoided prison and an animal ban.
The Age UK employee was doing her weekly visit to Clint Redshaw’s mum's home to take her shopping when she was set upon by a Staffy crossbreed, which went towards her along with another dog when she entered the house in Northumberland.
The dog caused a “nasty” flesh wound to the woman’s thigh which left her needing hospital treatment. A court heard she is now very fearful of certain dogs.
Newcastle Crown Court heard the dog has since been destroyed, which Redshaw made clear during the hearing he was not happy about. Now he has been given a suspended prison sentence but a judge agreed not to ban him from keeping animals after accepting they are an important part of his life.
It was on January 23, 2024 that the victim attended at the home where Redshaw lives with his mother, on Linshiels Gardens, in Ashington. She arrived around 1.30pm. that Tuesday to take her shopping, as she did every week.
Gurjot Kaur, prosecuting, told Newcastle Crown Court: “In the usual way she approached the back door and knocked on the door before entering.
“As she did so, two dogs which appeared to her to be pitbull/bully type dogs ran from the living room towards her.
