'Cowardly' thug punched partner in vicious attack

VIOLENT Callum Hackett was branded a coward as he was jailed for an attack in which he “mercilessly” smashed his girlfriend in the face with a can of deodorant.
Hackett subjected the terrified woman to a shocking attack in which he kicked and punched her before using the metal can as a weapon, leaving her nose deformed and knocking out a tooth.
Newcastle Crown Court heard a neighbour heard Hackett arguing with the woman and it escalated and spilled out into the street in Newcastle. The woman tried to seek refuge at a neighbour’s home but Hackett followed her out and attacked her.
Judge Tim Gittins told him: “You grabbed her by the hair, ragging her about, pulled out her hair extensions. You forced her to the floor, kicking and punching her then you used a metal deodorant can to beat her mercilessly to the face.
