Council takes steps to rule out violence in the workplace

GATESHEAD councillors have pledged unanimously to ensure the local authority will not tolerate violence in the workplace.

In full council, elected members from both sides of the chamber approved a charter, from the trade unions Unison and GMB, which calls on employers to commit to meet a number of standards. The standards, among others, include:

■ Measures are taken to reduce staff working in isolated buildings, offices, or other work areas to a minimum.
