First ascent for climbing event

THE Mayor and Mayoress of Ellesmere Port were among the 400 attendees at GoatFest 2025, a new national youth climbing competition that made its high-energy debut at Climbing Hut Ellesmere Port on Saturday, May 10.

The event drew more than 200 elite young climbers aged seven to 18 from across the UK, including Edinburgh, London, Sheffield, Manchester and North Wales for a full day of sport, spectacle and community celebration.
The mayor, clearly impressed, praised GoatFest as a must-see event for every school, and highlighted the huge benefits of climbing for young people. The mayoress and mayor both stayed for longer than expected, chatting with climbers and enjoying the festivities.
