Hopes of correcting Nigeria's long-standing geopolitical imbalance gained traction this week as the Senate passed a bill seeking to create a sixth state in the South-East through its second reading.

The bill, sponsored by Senator Osita Izunaso (Imo West), proposes the creation of Anim State from parts of Imo and Anambra States.
while marking his two years in office, Izunaso described the move as a constitutional necessity, not a political favour.
