The Institute of Chartered (ICAI) has proposed to the government the possibility of allowing chartered accountants from the United Kingdom and Canada to practice in India on a reciprocal basis. This move, if implemented, would mark the first time that overseas chartered accountants would be permitted to practice in India.

ICAI President Ranjeet Kumar Agarwal revealed on Wednesday that the proposal is contingent upon a reciprocal arrangement, wherein Indian chartered accountants would also gain the opportunity to practice in the UK and Canada. This proposal comes amid India's ongoing negotiations for Free Trade Agreements (FTAS) with both countries.

Agarwal also indicated that similar discussions are underway with Australia to establish a comparable arrangement.
