SUPREME COURT ISSUED CONTEMPT NOTICE TO TWO NCDRC MEMBERS FOR ISSUING WARRANTS IGNORING SUPREME COURT'S STAY ORDER

The Supreme Court in the case Ireo Grace Realtech Pvt Ltd vs Sanjay Gopinath observed and has issued contempt notice to two members of the National Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission, NCDRC for issuing the nonbailable warrants ignoring an interim order passed by the Supreme Court.

Earlier, the court in the case sought an explanation from the members. Unconvinced with their explanation.

The bench comprising of Justice Hima Kohli and Justice Ahsanuddin Amanullah in the case observed and has asked them to show cause why contempt of court proceedings should not be initiated against them.

The court noted that even after the court issued the notice to the National Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission, NCDRC members on April 15, thus, the NCDRC members did not recall the non-bailable warrants.

The bench in its order stated that it being appropriate to issue show cause notice in the name of the members of the National Consumer Dispute Redressal Commission, NCDRC to show cause as to why contempt of court proceedings ought not to be initiated for wilful defiance of the orders passed by this Court.

The bench stated that the reply needs to be submitted within the period of ten days.
