The concept of memorializing political leaders dates back centuries, reflecting the human tendency to honor and remember those who have had significant roles in shaping the course of history.

Former Congress leader Sanjay Gandhi, son of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, has a memorial in Delhi, whereas former Prime Minister V. P. Singh lacks one anywhere in India. As the Congress and BJP engage in a heated debate over the final resting place of ex-PM Manmohan Singh, who passed away on December 26, the decision of who receives a memorial – and where – is often influenced by the party in power at the time.
