In a significant move during the winter session of the state assembly, the Maharashtra government, under the leadership of Eknath Shinde, tabled supplementary demands totaling Rs 55,520.77 crore. These supplementary demands, presented by Finance Minister Ajit Pawar, represent funds requested beyond the allocated budget.
Breaking down the figures, a substantial portion, amounting to Rs 19,244.34 crore, has been earmarked for what is described as mandatory expenditure. Additionally, Rs 32,792.81 crore is slated for various ongoing programs and schemes run by the state government. A note released by the finance department clarified that Rs 3,483.62 crore of the supplementary demands are aimed at supporting the Union government's ongoing schemes.
