Justice Sanjiv Khanna has officially assumed office as the Chief Justice of India, CJI, succeeding Justice DY Chandrachud.

Justice Sanjiv Khanna is the 51st Chief Justice of India, CJI.
The President of India Droupadi Murmu administered the oath to Justice Khanna at a swearing-in ceremony which is held at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Justice Sanjiv Khanna will have a term of nearly seven months till May 13, 2025.
Justice Khanna was elevated to the Supreme Court from the Delhi High Court on January 18, 2019.

Justice DY Chandrachud had written to the Centre wherein he recommended the name of Justice Khanna, the second senior judge of the Supreme Court, as his successor.

Heavy dependence on imported fuel and high infrastructure costs make the transition urgent but also complex,\" the Minister explained.
