533 consumer complaints filed under food, beverage category in last 2 years

In cases where food samples are found to be non-conforming, penal action is taken against the defaulting Food Business Operators as per the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, Rules and Regulations.

A total of 533 customer complaints have been filed under the food and beverage category in the consumer commissions over the past two years, Union Minister of State for the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, BL Verma stated in a written reply on Tuesday in the Rajya Sabha.
Uttar Pradesh topped the list with total 88 cases, followed by Rajasthan and Haryana which registered 88 and 57 cases respectively, the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution added in a release.
