IN a closely contested Village Cricket League encounter, Newdigate's Sunday XI emerged victorious with a determined four-wicket win over Dorking CC's VCL first XI at Pixham Lane.

After electing to bat first, Dorking found scoring difficult on a surface that offered assistance to the bowlers. Newdigate's disciplined bowling attack applied pressure from the outset, regularly picking up wickets and preventing any significant partnerships from forming.
Wicket-keeper batter James Whitmarsh (25) top scored at number seven, while Jack Homewood's 15 patient 15 started to build some momentum for the home team. Their partnership was broken by a brilliant one handed diving catch at deep second slip by Jon Bell as Jack Homewood's resistance ended.
