While 16-year-olds will soon have the right to vote in parliamentary elections, many other societal activites will remain out of bounds for the age group.

DONATE BLOOD
You must be at least 17 years old to donate blood in the UK. While you can register your interest at 16, you will not be eligible to give blood until you have had your 17th birthday.
BUYING FIREWORKS
The law on buying fireworks is strict. You must be 18 or older to buy "adult fireworks" (Category 2 and 3), which are the types typically sold in supermarkets and shops. However, low-hazard fireworks (Category 1), such as party poppers and Christmas crackers, can be sold to anyone aged 16 or over.
