Bus passengers face disruption as strike goes ahead

Bus passengers are facing disruption next week because of a walkout of drivers and engineers.
Nearly 600 Unite members at Busways Travel Services-part of the Stagecoach North East group-have voted to strike in a dispute over pay on Monday, August 18, and Thursday, August 21.
Strikes due this week were suspended pending further talks between the company and the Unite union but are back on after workers rejected the company's latest pay offer.
The workers voted to reject a five per cent offer split over two years.
The action involves engineers at the firm's depots in Sunderland and South Shields, and drivers at its two Newcastle centres.
The union says the offer does not bring the workers in the region pay parity with colleagues doing the same job for Stagecoach in the North West.
