Findings pending into death of uMlazi intern

THE highly anticipated investigation into the death of medical intern Dr Alulutho Mazwi at Prince Mshiyeni Memorial Hospital in KwaZulu-Natal has been concluded by the Office of the Health Ombudsman, Professor Taole Mokoena.

The findings of the probe, which was launched following a request by Minister of Health Aaron Motsoaledi, are now in the final stages of compilation pending comments from key stakeholders.

Dr Mazwi, who was diagnosed with diabetes, had informed his supervisor that he was feeling unwell but was allegedly instructed to continue working, collapsing twice before his death.

The Ombudsman’s office confirmed the investigation's status, noting: “The investigation has been concluded and is in the final stages of writing up, pending comments from the family, the health establishment and other stakeholders.”
