Labour deputy leader says party stronger with Burnham in team

LEAVING Andy Burnham out of Westminster is like Phil Foden not making the England squad, says Labour deputy leader Lucy Powell.

The Manchester City fan has called for the best players on the political pitch and said it would be a mistake to leave the Greater Manchester Mayor out of Labour's Westminster team.

Ms Powell, MP for Manchester Central, was speaking after the England World Cup squad was unveiled, with Foden missing out.
