POLICE SPECIAL JAILED AFTER TAKING PHOTOS OF DYING MAN

|May 18, 2025
A MIDLAND special constable who accessed footage of a man as he lay dying in the street and took photos of it has been jailed.

Former Leicestershire Police volunteer William Heggs took photographs on his personal phone from body-worn footage of William Harty as he lay fatally wounded in the street.
The 'insensitive' 23-year-old later shared the graphic pictures with a colleague who did not like seeing blood and said: "I know I shouldn't have."
Mr Harty's grieving widow said she has been left 'traumatised' by Heggs' actions and fears she will see horrific pictures of her late husband on social media.
A police probe later uncovered Heggs shared other footage and had taken multiple photographs relating to crimes, secretly storing the content in folder called "My eyes only".
He 'violated the dignity' of dead victims for his 'personal fascination and to gain credibility among his peers'.
Members of Heggs' family sobbed in the public gallery as he was led down to the cells after being jailed for 12 months at Leicester Crown Court.
He admitted 11 computer misuse and data protection offences, including securing unauthorised access to data and recklessly obtaining or disclosing personal data between July and December 2021.
The court heard how Heggs had given Mr Harty CPR at the scene in Bedale Drive, Leicester, on October 25, 2021.
