A MIDLAND mum has told of her own experience of the life-threatening condition which the Duchess of Sussex has revealed she suffered from following the birth of one of her children.

- STAFF REPORTER

Meghan Markle spoke about her experience with postpartum preeclampsia in the debut episode of her new podcast, Confessions of a Female Founder.

The duchess's experience of the life-threatening disorder of pregnancy brought back memories for medical secretary Sarah Mullins, 55, who suffered from the condition after the birth of her son Ben, now 30.

Sarah, from Redditch, suffered from both preeclampsia which occurs during pregnancy and postpartum preeclampsia which develops after childbirth --and said she feared she'd never be the same again.

She said: "I didn’t realise it can run in families. Apparently, my mum had it with my older sister.

"I was quite nervous and scared as Ben was my first baby anyway, then when I went for a checkup at 30 weeks, I was told that there was a lot of protein in my urine sample.

"When the GP checked my blood pressure, it was quite high as well, which is unusual for me."

Sarah said she became upset, so the doctor made a home visit later to redo the checks when she was calmer, but this showed her blood pressure to be even higher and she was admitted to hospital.
