HE may have been told where to go in no uncertain terms by Rangers fans - but Kevin Thelwell claims the Ibrox club are heading in the right direction.

- BY FRASER WILSON

The sporting director and chief executive Patrick Stewart have been targets for furious Ibrox punters with banners and X-rated chants aimed in their direction on a weekly basis.

Following the worst start to a league campaign in decades, Russell Martin was sacked after just 122 days in charge and Thelwell and Stewart have found their own heads in the crosshairs.

The former Everton director of football admits Rangers were NOT heading in the right direction under Martin.

But he insists the appointment of Danny Rohl has already began to reverse the slide.

The German has won three league games on the bounce but has also suffered two defeats in Europe to Brann and Roma and a Premier Sports Cup semi final loss to Celtic.

Thelwell spoke to the club's own media to address a number of issues. And asked if he was confident Rangers are now moving in the right direction, he said: "Yeah, I still feel very confident.

"The situation is clearly that we felt that we weren't going in the right direction previously and so unfortunately we had to make that change.
