TIMELESS QUALITY OF SCOTS STARS

Photographer Stewart and music writer Tom release book of rare photographs capturing hit bands before they shot to fame in the pop charts

BY PAUL ENGLISH

THEY laid in a photographer's vault for 40 years, the forgotten photos of Scotland's biggest bands - before anyone knew who they were.

Now a rare collection of fresh-faced stars are being published in a book chronicling the early days before they topped the charts and became the most recognis-able names in Scottish pop.

The Proclaimers, Deacon Blue, Wet Wet Wet and Orange Juice are among the bands captured in Big Rhythm, a collection of lost images created from the files of phogotrapher Stewart Cunningham.

Stewart was one of the best-known photographers on the Glasgow music scene in the early 80s.

He frequently teamed up with writer Tom Morton, who went on to become one of Scotland's best-known music journalists and broadcasters, to chronicle the city's music scene.
