Shoppers set to spend £261m in last-minute panic splurge

CHRISTMAS shoppers are set to splash out £261million this weekend on the high street, panic buying for last-minute gifts.

Retailers are hoping the spending spree will provide a welcome boost following a lacklustre December so far.

And with the sun shining on the last Saturday before Christmas, punters were out in droves in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dundee and Aberdeen snapping up presents for loved ones.

Across the UK shoppers are expected to spend £3.4billion, according to a report by market analysts GlobalData.
