Ryan backs Clarke to conjure up more Scotland memories
RYAN CHRISTIE is keen for Steve Clarke to extend his reign as Scotland boss beyond the World Cup.
The Bournemouth star insists the head coach has already cemented his position as a Scottish football legend - but hopes he sticks around to create more magic memories.
Clarke this week revealed the SFA have yet to open negotiations over a new deal with his contract set to expire in the coming months.
The 62-year-old admitted he was now 50/50 on the thought of staying on with a return to club football also appealing.
But after leading the nation to two European Championships and now a first World Cup in 28 years, Christie would love Clarke to remain in charge for the next Euro qualifying campaign.
He said: “Personally? Absolutely! You just need to look at what he has done for us. I would put so much of our success over the last few years down to him.
“That is in terms of on the pitch, off the pitch, all of it together. He has already written his name in the history books as a legend of Scottish football.
“We will wait and see what happens. The players don't take too much to do with it, we let that take care of itself, but he has been superb for us”
